Fourth Grade Junior Science Academy Classes
Geology
• Observe and record physical characteristics of rocks.
• Test minerals to determine their properties.
• Identify minerals by their characteristics.
• Student directed investigations of research specimens.

Biology
• Observe adaptations in specimens of Utah's animals and plants.
• Explore interactions between animals and plants from different environments.
• Use Museum specimens, microscopes and other resources for student-centered investigations.
• Meets Science Standard V, Objectives 1, 2, and 3
Anthropology
• Compare and contrast the Anasazi, Fremont and Paleo Indian cultures.
• Examine, investigate and make inferences using ancient tools.
• Use a mano and matate to grind corn into flour.
• Construct a clay coil pot to take home.
• Meets Social Studies Standard I, Objectives 1 and 2, and Standard II, Objective 1
Fossils
• Observe and record physical characteristics of fossils.
• Recognize differences between different types of fossils.
• Use fossils to make inferences about Utah's past.
• Meets Science Standard IV, Objectives 1 and 2
Fifth Grade Junior Science Academy Classes
Traits
• Use new world-class exhibits and specimens to make observations of visible traits in different animal and plant species.
• Learn how a variety of traits may help species survive in specific environments.
• Understand that traits are passed from generation to generation and are located in DNA.
• Extract DNA to take home.
