Open Wednesdays 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. - Last Admission is 8:30 p.m.

The Museum will be closing at 5:00p.m. on April 30. We apologize for any inconvenience.

A Note about School Groups
The Museum is fortunate to host 45,000 school children every year. As a result, you may experience enthusiastic young learners during your visit. Many visitors enjoy the energy of school groups in the galleries.  However, if you wish to visit the Museum during a quieter time, the following days and times tend to be less busy:

  • Wednesday evenings – we are open until 9 p.m.
  • Monday – Friday after 3 p.m.
  • Sundays

Association of Science - Technology Centers Passport Program

The Natural History Museum of Utah is a member of the Association of Science - Technology Centers.  Free admission to the NHMU through the ASTC passport program is offered to anyone who (1) lives more than 90 miles away (as the crow flies) from NHMU, AND (2) has a current membership in an ASTC-passport museum located more than 90 miles from NHMU (as the crow flies).  Proof of both residence and membership is required.  Free admission is limited to one for “individual” memberships, two for “duo” memberships, and two adults plus all minors living at the same address for “family” or higher membership categories.

Blue Star Museums

The Museum is pleased to offer free admission to all active military ID holders and up to 5 family members from Memorial Day through Labor Day as part of the Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment of the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,500 museums across America.

University of Utah Alumni Association Member Discount

The Museum is pleased to offer University of Utah Alumni Association members $2 off Adult, Senior, and Youth admission, and $1 off Child admission. This discount extends to the Alumni Association member and up to three guests per visit. Members must present a valid Alumni Association membership card and photo ID at the museum admission desk to take advantage of this offer.

School Field Trip "Bounce Back"

Kids who visit the Museum with their school for a field trip receive a wrist band that can be used to receive one free child or youth admission for that student to visit the Museum at a future time.

ShareTix Foundation 
The Natural History Museum of Utah is pleased to be partnering with Sharetix, a Utah nonprofit organization that provides tickets to sporting events, theaters and concerts for at-risk community groups for free. Established in 2011, Sharetix partners with local arts and entertainment organizations to help distribute free tickets to under-served individuals and families. Free Days at the Museum

The Museum will offer four Free Days during 2014 in appreciation for the important Zoo, Arts, and Parks funding we receive from Salt Lake County. 

Free Days 2014

  • Monday, January 13, 2014
  • Monday April 14, 2014
  • Monday, July 14, 2014
  • Monday, October 13, 2014

Advance reservations are strongly encouraged for Free Days are available online only on the Tuesday prior to each scheduled Free Day at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Time. 

A limited amount of drop-in tickets are available for each Free Day.  If you don't have advance reservations, you are able to still come to the Museum.  If tickets are available, then you will be granted admission, though you may be asked to wait for a later start time.  Please be aware that, while we make every effort to serve everyone, we cannot guarantee admission on Free Days if you don't have an advance reservation.
